Take to the skies in this VR game

Attack on Quest is a free virtual reality action video game wherein you can become a member of the Survey Corps. Developed by AoQ, this fanmade game is based on the popular anime series, Attack on Titan, and features first-person combat against the dreaded Titans. The game was built to run on the Oculus Quest but there are two versions: one for the Oculus Quest and one for the Oculus Rift.

Destroy all Titans

Attack on Titan—also known as “Shingeki no Kyojin”— is a 2009 Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, which eventually a successful anime adaptation in 2013. It follows the story of Eren Yeager, who vowed to stop all of the Titans—gigantic humanoid creatures that eat humans—after the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother. The series has spawned several official games and many more fanmade ones, including this one.

Attack on Quest is pretty simple in premise, as it offers you the chance to feel like a member of the frontlines. Here, you can fly and swing into the air with your 3D maneuver gear, and kill roaming Titans with your dual blades. Similar to the anime, you have to strike at the Titans’ vital points—mostly the neck—to score a kill. There are various items and refills scattered around the map.

You can select different levels for different maps, with a hardcore mode available. You can also tweak the settings for gameplay—such as unlimited gas and blades—and visuals. The in-game models are pretty simple but your movements are quite realistic. The Titans themselves aren’t too varied on appearance and heights but they can easily be dangerous as they’ll step on you and grab you in mid-air—although you can escape their grip.

The VR experience AoT deserves

Overall, Attack on Quest is a great and nicely-done VR game for an inspiring show. It may remind players of the Attack on Titan Tribute Game—but more accurately-scaled and in the first-person perspective. While the graphics aren’t too polished, the gameplay itself can be pretty exciting, especially with the challenges and killstreak leaderboard available. This is a highly-recommended game for any AoT fans who own an Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift.

PROS

  • Exhilarating mid-air combat
  • Can enable unlimited supplies
  • Has a killstreak leaderboard
  • Smooth and fluid flying physics

CONS

  • In-game models aren’t too polished
  • Not much variety in the in-game assets
